This weight loss journey often has me wondering, “What am I even doing?”
You try to move more and sit less.
You eat more of the “right” foods whilst pretending that you don’t want the “wrong” ones.
Then you wait for the results.
And you wait.
And you wait.
And… you wait some more. 😴 ⏰
Truth be told, I’ve never been a very patient person. Unfortunately, weight loss isn’t an overnight process. It totally should be though. I mean, I simply don’t have time for this whole being fat stuff anymore. I really don’t. I’ve been over here like:
It reminds me of that horribly annoying, but totally true statement people always tell folks who are trying to lose weight, “You know, you didn’t gain it overnight, so you can’t expect to lose it overnight either.”
Gosh, I can’t stand when people say that, but the argument is so logical that you can’t even get mad at anyone for saying it. LOL.
But at the same time, it sure feels as though I’ve gained this weight overnight. I mean, I can’t tell you how many times I have gone to bed seeing one number on the scale, only to weigh myself the next morning and want to jump out of the nearest window in angst. 😭
The past few days tried my patience to the max, I swear. Something I ate over the weekend is to blame for the excessive bloating and puffiness that I’ve been experiencing (or dare I say many ‘somethings’).
Right after announcing, “Yay! I’m finally losing weight!“– BAM! Everything went haywire. I spent the entire weekend feeling as though I was about to take flight or just roll away somewhere; it was awful.
Only in the last hour or so has the “bubble-effect” subsided. I couldn’t be happier either. Not only do I greatly dislike the way it makes me look, but I end up feeling ridiculously uncomfortable too. Just imagine your abdomen suddenly swelling to 2X or 3X its normal size. Not fun. In fact, it’s just downright weird.
At least I now know for sure that I’m not just making things up in my head. Food is so to blame for this, but which one?! 😰 Running down the list of things I ate this weekend, I couldn’t pinpoint a sure trigger. Whatever the food(s) was/were, it wasn’t just a one day thing or else the effects wouldn’t have lasted as long as they did.
For now, the suspects are as follows:
- Milk – I had milk in lattes at least twice this weekend.
- Soy – Soy sauce was in the food I cooked, which I also ate twice.
- Diet Soda – Could one flavor impact me differently than others?
- Eggs – I had eggs everyday for the past three days.
- Peanut Butter – A known “problem food” for me, but I had so little! 🥜
- Rice – I have been suspecting this for awhile, but say it ain’t so!
Haha… “the suspects”. Corny, I know, but it is honestly starting to feel as though I need to put on my Sherlock Holmes hat and launch a full scale investigation. Er… you know, if I actually had a Sherlock Holmes hat. 🕵🏽♀️
The reason that I am giving these particular foods the side-eye is that these aren’t foods I eat on a day to day basis. For instance, I never drink milk plain, only in coffee drinks or made into a recipe. Plus, I only have soy when I have Chinese food or something, which is no more than 2-3 times a month.
Diet soda is unfortunately a near daily thing still (I know! I know! I’m working on giving it up!), but I don’t always have trouble when I drink it. However, I tried a new flavor of Diet Coke this weekend, so you never know. Maybe my stomach hates Strawberry Guava Coke.
Eggs aren’t my favorite, but I had them three different ways Friday-Sunday. Hmm… that’s a lot of egg, for me. 🤔
As for peanut butter, I had a small amount on both Friday and Saturday. I have had issues eating most nuts and nut butters for the last few years (especially peanut). Eating too much of them causes me to wheeze, cough, sputter, and gag… You know, totally normal things that in no way indicate that I should stop eating them. 🤫
Then there’s rice. Recently, I’ve been noticing that my stomach instantly puffs after eating fried rice from my favorite Chinese restaurant. I usually become groggy with a headache as well. Though I used to eat rice on a very regular basis, I have not done so in an extremely long time. However, I haven’t wanted to believe that rice was something I should completely let go of– especially since I do not have it very often.
But then again…
It’s funny how sharing tidbits of your private life with complete strangers on the Internet can help you realize what an ignorant dolt you are. 😂 I mean, sheesh! Who continues to eat things they suspect are making them feel and look like a Teletubby??
I’m not even sure what to do at this point. Part of me wants to literally stop eating altogether and test one. single. food. at. a. time. However, I would have to wait at least three to four hours to give everything time to digest before I could tell if that was an actual culprit.
And how would I test soy sauce? Take a swig of the stuff all on its own without a sushi chaser??
*Sigh* This could take a very long time.
Yesterday’s Workout: 46 mins. Cardio and weights. 20 mins Tae Bo Body Shape and 26 mins Zumba
I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I seriously did not want my workout to end yesterday. Despite suddenly falling asleep like an infant earlier in the afternoon, I woke up raring to go.
My energy was through the roof this weekend, so had it not been for needing to make time to write this post (I actually pre-wrote it yesterday in order to switch to posting earlier in the day), I would have definitely kept on going. The secret to my newfound energy? That shall be revealed in a post later this week!
Tae Bo Body Shape was WAY harder than I had expected it to be. At just over 20 minutes, I was thinking it would be a nice warm-up. Um, no. LOL. Even with my little 3 lb weights, my arms were crying for mercy by the time I finished.
If you aren’t used to working out your arms very much and you are looking for something to help get you ready for summer, you should definitely check that video out. It’s short, sweet, but surely effective. I will be back for more, that’s for sure.
The Zumba video I chose today was really fun. I have some of the official Zumba DVDs and have always loved them since I like to dance to fun music. Though it was high energy, it was the perfect difficulty level for me. Easy to follow along with, but still good for getting my heart rate up.
It may not be ideal for beginners or people who have trouble doing choreography without specific, step by step instructions, but I’d still give it a try if you’re looking to try something new or already like Zumba. 💃🏽
Well, this concludes yet another awesome week. Today, I shall start anew!
For the next seven days, I am going to try to work out at least four or five days. I’d like to get back to doing it daily, but… let’s see how I do with this week’s goal.
As for diet, I definitely hope to identify which foods are bothering me. I really don’t want to continue to eat things that will negatively impact my overall wellbeing or weight loss, you know? Perhaps I will have some much needed answers to share next week.
Hope you all had a great weekend! Now go show Monday who’s boss! 🙂
Today is Day 43.
